In working with projects, children have the opportunity to think about important topics in their environment, reflect on current events, and explore life outside of school.
They are designed to help children learn how to think, study, research, and form opinions. Projects are developed and carried out WITH the children, not FOR the children.
We know that for learning to happen, a curriculum must be organized in a way that is meaningful for both the group and the teachers. Doing the same sequence of content every year, as if knowledge were an unchangeable truth, does not align with this. Projects open the possibility of learning different kinds of knowledge in a non-linear way and through multiple forms of expression. After all, how can we predict a year-long work program if we don’t know what the children’s questions, curiosities, and inquiries will be?
